The direction of GC 17 April 2006
hey ya there people i know many of the old players or vets are complaining that there isnt any updates at all on gc. this post is meant to inform everyone about what is going on with the gc 1.07 update.
1.06 to 1.07 update
1.06 to 1.07 update is a major update. just to show you how major it is, it took 1 year for us to update uc from 1.06 to 1.07, in which during that time we encountered many server problems ranging from update issues, non-workable or problematic concept or logic, and others. this has resulted in 80% of all players in uc leaving within the first 2 months. this is a major decision for us, mainly because uc wasnt going anywhere at that time, remaining as a shadow of gc. uc was always meant to be an easier version of gc, that players or newbies can play. after this newbies have learn what they can they can move on to gc that is classified as `hard`.
i last did the update for gc on dec 2004, monitored and fixed some bugs between dec 2005 to feb 2005. uc update began feb 2005 to feb 2006 and it has yet to be fully 100% completed. as you well know that gc is more sensitive compared to uc. i speak on terms of game play in a sense that in uc 10,000 planets doesnt meant anything while on uc, it does a lot. losing a battle can mean losing all your planets (ex: 3x c3), which is why we classify gc as `highly sensitive`.
this is one of the major reason why i have always inform all players (since 2003) that all ideas or updates will be tested on uc first due to this sensitivity. all ideas that proved to be able to work will be worked on (twicked), adjusted, balanced on uc first. after all of that is done, only then will it be moved on to gc. this has always been the case since uc version 1.00 came up.
i was meant to work on gc update, and to come up with a beta sometime in feb 2006, however i found out that i basically have to re-write everything. my hdd crashed sometime in 2005 (i was working on gc update in jul 2005-sep 2005), and have lost all the work done so far due to the hdd crash, so it will definately take to work on the gc update.
what to expect in 1.07 ?
gc 1.07 will be more or less exactly the same it is as today, except for the engine. no new features, no changes (or at least we try not to). gc is a great game, the way it is today so we will try not to do that much changes to it so long as that is possible.
the last i have made any announcement related to 1.07, is that 1.07 engine would make it easier for us to add in content, like easier to edit the ship/artifact descriptions, missions and so on. there wont be any major feature update for gc after 1.06 however we would concentrate more towards content, as in storyline and role play.
content ? what improvements can you expect ?
we just got in a new guy, his job is to role play. we have tried role playing on uc (game-events) and it seems to be working well, so we will work on role playing on gc as well. since he is still new do give him sometime to get his foot on the ground first, before moving on to role playing on gc.
i always believe that the game is not about what features you have and all that. playing game is to be part of the game, to have a great imagination, dream, goal and sense of purpose in the virtual world. this is where role playing and other content (such as ship/artifact description) comes in.
therefore one thing you can expect is, more role playing, and more storyline for gc in the near future.
Still not happy ?
it is not true that gc hasnt gotten any updates at all. if you have noticed we have removed `i need help` link, replaced it with `help center` an integrated help-pm system. we also updated our ad, from spacefed.com/ad to www.gamestotal.com/ad, moved many things from spacefed to gamestotal.com domain, updated the donation page, a great number of stuff on the backend, fixed a number of bugs and a lot more things. of course all of this is on the backend, nothing major therefore most players may not notice this updates and i dont blame you. this is just to answer some older players or vet that is complaining that there isnt any updates or improvement to gc at all.
