GC Update Preview   04 January 2006

Good news ! It is going to be time for us to work on GC, so here is the detailed schedule for the update and what to expect.


Reminders

GC and UC is seperate games therefore GC will not be changed to what UC is like and the same way around. GC will not have the UC multiple planetary system, UC battle style or ship changes. There have been a lot of false rumours going around mentioning that we intend to change GC to UC or UC to GC and I would like to clear things up for everyone. GC will remain the same as it is today even after the update. As I have personally announced in the last update (1.06) that we will be concentrating more on the content rather than putting in new features or changes.

In constrast to our previous updates, updates for GC will be done in a many of small patches rather than a big-bang. This should reduce the number of bugs and server problems that usually comes a long with a big-bang update.



Feb 2005

In early Feb, we hope to get a beta version up for trials and testing. This will be a barebone system that will have almost the same feel and feature as the current GC. It will also have:

+ Multiple server support just like in UC. This is to ensure that you can switch to another server anytime if there is lag or server problems. Server (Normal, Fast, RT, Etc) will be renamed to game speed. The names will be kept (wont be renamed to daily or hourly)

+ Upgrade `I need help` system to `Help Center`

+ Viral & Collective will have a fixed rate upkeep for all captured or reversed engineered ships

+ Simple Missions, temporary missions will be included in this new update

+ Tribute : ability to send credits or food to other empires

Enslave :
o Renamed to Lord/Vassal (vassal sounds better than slave)
o Ability to accept lord/vassal
o Honor points will be given based on planet count
o Ability to use honor points to declare independence or 10x Pr (currently is 10x Pr)

Federation Changes :
+ Lieutenant : to assist federation leaders
- Fed war : no more bonus for fed war, as we have also gotten a lot of complains that some players abuses the fed war Pr Difference Bonus when attacking
- Fed vote : this will be removed, as we have gotten a lot of complains of spies that infiltrate fed to disband it (this is a rather annoying bit)


Mar 2005 to Aug 2005

Design change, the overall user interface and outlook for GC will be reverted back to 1.05 beta (same version as back in Apr-May 2003). This will create a clear difference between GC & UC. We will try to make GC look more like a web based game, and UC to be (trying to at least) like a CD based game (with the current JsClient enabled). For those wondering how it looks like 1.03 beta looks almost like the current GC but slightly more like a web page (no drastic change).

This this time period we will concentrate on the concent mainly on the content of game.

Some additional features will be added such as the rank-near-me filters in UC to automatically find targets out of DP, fed ad (those looking for fed), multiple ship build and others. There may be some other features that may be added, however none of this features will effect the game balance or game play in anyway.

Content update > will be adding in new content for GC, especially new projects, storyline and expanding on the missions



What will not go in to GC

There is no plan to include the following unless if a great number of players requests for it:

o JsClient (high graphic mode in UC)
o 1 general minister (only allowed 1 active one in contrast to 8 for UC, players can have additional inactive ministers)
o Empire Level

The following will definately wont be updated in GC even if a great number of players request for it. So please dont send us request for this. The decision is made because the following may have far too great an impact on the game play and game balancing.

o Multiple Planetary System fleet
o 1 minister per planetary system
o Losing 4-10 attacks before dropping into DP
o Reinforcement structure > Outpost
o 4 stack reinforcements, 2 from federation members and 2 from vassals
